Our Garden - The Kitchen Garden

To create the Kitchen Garden garden we removed the grass on an area of 14x7 meters, covered the ground with geotextile and topped with shingle. On top of the geotextile we built two raised beds for growing herbs, salad etc.

The Kitchen Garden is surronded by low hedges on either side. We have a small greenhouse on our wish list. It is supposed to be built in the far end of the kitchen garden (where the table stands in the picture).

To the left (west) of the Kitchen Garden we grow rhubarbs and a single row of asparagus. There are also strawberries here but they are all covered by weeds so we're planning to clear that area this summer and cover it too with geotextile.

The raised beds where filled with new soil when we built them two years ago. Here we grow herbs (parsley, tarragon, thyme, chives and mint etc), vegetables (salad, beetroot, carrots) and potatoes. (Potatoes obviously in a very small scale due to the limited space).

We also use the beds as nursery for small and odd plants. The plan is to get better space for this activity in the area where we now have strawberries (i.e. weeds).
