On the fourth side the yard is protected by a trellis covered with Hop
(Humulus lupulus). It closes the room and gives protection from
southerly winds and the eyes of people passing by on the road.
To match the colours of the house we have chosen perennials in the red
and white scale such as Astilbe, Heucera, Masterwort (Astrantia major),
Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpureum),
Snow-in-summer (Cerastium
tomentosum), Woodruff (Galium odoratum), Foam Flower (Tiarella
cordifolia), and a few more... |

The warm and protected yard is excellent for our mediterranean plants: rosemary, myrtle and agapanthus.
Since we have no conservatory we store them in the cellar during the winter
to protecct them from frost.
The pictures were taken early last summer. A lot has happened since then.
Some of the species, specially the Woodruff, are too invasive and threat
to take over, so we need to
clear up and exchange some of the species. |
